Hummer H1 UK Cars
The Hummer H1 that was into production from 1992 onwards, happens to be an off-road automobile that was manufactured by AM General. Based largely on the M998 Humvee that was used for military purposes, this large vehicle with its uncompromising quality and sturdy as well as practical build attracted a lot of enthusiasts. The Hummer H1 has combined the tough personality of the battle-tested Humvee with a little bit of fine-tuning in the creation of this civilian vehicle.
The Hummer was welcomed with open arms and wide smiles for nearly a decade after its introduction. The rugged looks of the vehicle and its ability to travel down any kind of road made it really unique and sought after. Symbolising virtues of strength, and durability, the Hummer H1 even went to such an extent of instilling feelings of patriotism in passionate minds.
The body structure of this rugged brute is inherently sturdy and came with options of a hard top, a slant back top, a soft top and a wagon top. This four-door vehicle whose weight exceeded more than 7000 pounds was obviously wider by more than 3 feet than a normal compact car. The power of the Hummer H1 was due to the 6.2 / 6.5 litre V8 diesel engine that also came in a turbo diesel variety. The 5.7 litre petrol engine could not withstand the weight of the vehicle and was discontinued after a few years trial. In combination with a 3 / 4 speed gear transmission, the vehicle was a real tough nut to crack.
Later versions of the Hummer H1 saw little change in the basic body structure. But the engine was upgraded to accommodate more power and torque. The interiors also saw a bit of revamp with larger leg rooms and a better steering wheel. Many features were added in keeping up with the times. The last of the Hummer H1 rolled out in 2006.
